We've lived in our house for 3 1/2 years and have done no decorating. We couldn't decided on a wall color. We couldn't decide on art. We laughed at ourselves for having design degrees and no sense for interiors. I mean, how sad is it when the most complete room in your house is the freakin' garage?!?
Well, we decided to do the nursery. Paint the walls. Hang artwork. Rip out the carpet and lay laminate floor. Fill with nice furniture that might hold the baby through college. That was the plan.
We bought laminate to do the livingroom, hallway, and nursery and right before we were planning to install it in June, Rob was dropped on his butt by one nasty kidney stone. After he recovered, we decided to paint before we laid the floor. We decided to find out the sex of the baby before we painted. And we couldn't find that out until September. Between work, work, sleep, and traveling for work, it was the end of October before we finally laid the floor. But we bought the furniture and hung the flat screen we've lovingly chosen to spoil our darling son with, and the room now waits for the practical stuff we'll need for the baby.
The weekend before Thanksgiving, we ripped out more carpet and started what we thought would be a two day job laying the floor in the livingroom and hallway. Ten days later, we were finally putting the baseboards back on the wall. We bought some hurricane candle holders for the mantle, finally hung pictures on the wall...including the portraits of my great-grandparents that have been sitting on the floor of the guest room for two years.
Last Thursday and Friday, I burned off some annual leave to paint the guestroom. We spent the weekend ripping out carpet and laying laminate in that room. And when we were done, we thought, "you know, our bed would look great in here."
We bought ourselves new bedroom furniture today. It arrives sometime next Thursday, giving us exactly 9 days to...
1. Move our bedroom furniture into the guestroom.
2. Move all the crap out of our bedroom.
3. Paint room.
4. Rip up carpet and nailboards and prep cement floor.
5. install laminate floor and quarter-round molding
'Cause I'll tell you, once THIS bed goes in this room...it's seriously not being moved again as long as we live in this house.
It's all going so very fast, and those are only the home improvement projects. We still have to get baby stuff done. We have to wash the crib linens and the baby clothes. We need to buy feeding and diapering supplies. We have to pack a bag for the hospital. We have to get all the construction crap out of the house and clean before mom gets here. And we only have a month...IF Daniel behaves and stays put until his due date.
