Give Him an Inch...

No kidding. It doesn't really matter what the new experience is, Daniel wants more.

A week ago, he still showed little interest in toys. he would take a small red plastic ring with the instincts of a blind man, grabbing it when it touched his hand. He'd hold onto it with that iron baby grip of his, and then drop it sometime after he had forgotten all about it. Now if you lay a noisy baby book on his chest, he will take it in both arms and chew on it with gusto. He will still still drop it after a few minutes, but now it is because he's bored rather than forgotten about it.

A week ago, if you put him in the saucer, he would sit back passively, his feet floating above the saucer's base and look at the pretty bright colored objects. Now, he stands up, turns in circles, and grabs all the toys with both hands like he intends to choke the life from them.

Weeks after he was born, Rob and I talked about how Daniel would be crawling if he could physically hold his weight on his arms. He hated being on his stomach and we surmised it was because he was frustrated by his inability to do anything at all. Now he can lift his head and hold it steady for long periods. He can look at things while on his tummy. He can turn himself right and left and he can roll over. The daycare ladies tell us he's pushing with his legs, which does little more than push his bottom into the air and forehead into the carpet, but he seems desperate to crawl.

Rob and I have a feeling that Daniel's not going to do anything slow. Already, with every little inch he's given, he takes a mile. We may change our minds about it later, but right now, we think it's freakin' fantastic.
